Starcodes for the week of December 22-28, 2023

Let’s keep our hearts open the potential of a miracle this week. It’s not inevitable, that’s not the nature of miracles, but it is possible. We could also see strange weather and misunderstandings create real problems. The stars encourage us to soften our hearts and pay great attention to our surroundings as Neptune speaks to us this week between chapters in our life.

Neptune brings great dreams and festive magic on a good day and confused frustration on a tough one as heart-centered, creative Venus trines Neptune while both mental Mercury and active Mars square Neptune this week, calling us to use our gifts of intuition and imagination and adding a glow to the music, power to our empathic prayer, to the symbols, however we celebrate.

Neptune can also bring foggy weather and confusion. Mercury is also retrograde so misunderstandings, miscues, or mistakes, jumping to conclusion with only half a story, all can slip in too easily. We need to pierce through the fog and really try to understand what is happening. Visualize what steps could help our world heal, both on the personal and local scale and our massive global challenges. Then take steps in that direction after Mercury turns direct on January 3.

But first – this week. It was a long tradition in the northern lands that one needed to finish up the knitting or weaving of one year before the winter solstice, then take a break and start anew in the new year. The Sun and retrograde Mercury conjunct in Capricorn on Friday and help us competently complete work, if not start new projects. If we don’t keep ourselves busy, the tendency will be to worry and wonder about the security of our life in the world, or, in our anxiety, try to manipulate people to do what we want them to do.

Late Friday night a more festive element arises as Mercury enters Sagittarius and stays through the next few weeks. Emotions will still run deep undercurrents with Venus in Scorpio all week, sometimes we’ll want to be in the heart of the party but minutes later we might need solitude. And so might our guests.

The waxing Moon enters nervy, talkative Gemini on Sunday, Christmas Eve and helps us travel to grandma’s house, talk, and share, but also lowers our attention span and brings out that Mercury retrograde impatience when signals are missed, or timing is off. Relax as much as possible, worry about traveling safely – not quickly – and if delays do pop up, look for a possible opportunity for adventure or connection in the process.

On December 26 a Full Moon in emotional Cancer can bring us to our heart or leave us somewhat overwhelmed. It is a magical time for reading books, for low-key, undemanding company as Mercury squares Neptune and the Sun trine Jupiter. Let people absolutely relax and be off stage to unwind, no expectations. Really hit the pause button. Expectations will set up defenses, traveling in a hurry can bring accidents. This time is about rest renewal and reacquainting ourselves with our beloveds.

That Full Moon in Cancer will also spotlight boundary questions, borders, home, homeland, and homelessness, and bring our attention to refugees and border problems everywhere. Let’s approach this world problem with perspective and compassion, with gratitude for our personal sanctuary and wondering how we can help all people be safe at home. The next few decades we’ll have to deal with problems of population and group mindsets as Pluto enters Aquarius, this is just the beginning. May the new year bring a safe home for all.
