Starcodes for the week of October 27 – November 2, 2023

Halloween, Samhain, the veils between the worlds thin at this time of year. A full Moon/lunar eclipse with Mars, Mercury, and the Sun in Scorpio adds plenty of haunted spookiness to this weekend. Though the celebrations begin this this weekend, our traditional mythic Halloween lands on Tuesday, October 31, weekend, and the actual cross-quarter day, the astrological midpoint between the fall equinox and winter solstice, falls on November 7 this year.

Which gives us a week to walk between the worlds and come to terms with death, honor the departed wrestle with our obsessions, and revive our life force before we head into the long winter ahead, which are all part of the work at this time of the year.

This weekend’s full Moon in Taurus/lunar eclipse bookends what began under the solar eclipse two weekends ago, just as war broke out in the Mideast. Some issue we’ve been wrestling with these weeks could come to a new- not necessarily a conclusion -but a new understanding. The eclipse falls in the middle of the day, on Saturday, at 2:24 PM MDT, so we won’t see it in this part of the world, but that full Moon will illuminate our evenings. It’s called the Hunter’s Moon- in the woods we’d see deer and turkey roam and bears prepare for winter. This full Moon also highlights what we search for, where do we feel hunted, and asks us how we can feel safe.

For the rest of the week the mood can be impatient, curious, incisive, and occasionally vindictive as mental Mercury approaches volatile Mars in Scorpio. Words can be weaponized, that that Mars-Mercury aspect can really trigger our defenses on any scale. World events have triggered PTSD in so many of us. We need to watch our mental muscles, because it can be easy to get depressed or to perseverate on the world’s wrongs and call for reckoning, but we don’t have to get stuck there. We can also use this Mars-Mercury energy to investigate, to make a tough decision or perform constructive surgery on a situation, and to push ourselves towards a personal best.

Friday can feel volatile or inspired under feisty Aries Moon. The Taurus full Moon over the weekend can bring a remarkably stubborn but also stable and sensuous energy, and an extra deliciousness to Halloween treats. A verbal Gemini Moon early next week precipitates new information and a fresh conversation and can help us take action on some emotional decision made over the weekend.

Later in the week an emotional Cancer Moon pulls us back into our hearts, but can make us more protective, crabby, and in need of comfort and coziness.

Friday, October 27: The mood can be dynamic but combustible, independent, and irritable. If we have a clear task that matters to us, we’ll have the energy to tackle it; though we can overreact and escalate instead of solve the problem. We won’t be in the mood for what feels irrelevant, in the way, or slow with the Sun, Mercury, and Mars in Scorpio and the Moon in impatient Aries, all action-oriented, volatile Mars ruled signs.

Saturday, October 28: We can change, if we have to, we guess. This could be a delicious and cuddly morning under a full Moon in earthy Taurus, but we will not be pushed, and can resist any change from the outside. Mars opposes Jupiter, a muscular and competitive, potentially aggressive or martial aspect that needs to be used carefully. Avoid arguments and stack wood for the winter instead; use those muscles. As the full Moon peaks in the lunar eclipse at 2:24 PM, some difficult decisions are needed, but watch and inclination to and a process that may just need to be adjusted. Choose the minimal difference necessary. Evening feels safer, more supportive, as long as we don’t poke the bear, poke people in their tender or stubborn places, while Mercury opposes Jupiter.

Moon square Pluto 2:19 AM, Moon enters Taurus 5:44 AM, Moon sextile Saturn 6:39 AM, Mars opposes Jupiter 10:30 AM, full Moon, lunar eclipse 2:24 PM, Mercury opposed Jupiter 9:44 PM.

Sunday, October 29: We’ll resist bending to another’s will as Mercury conjunct Mars. Watch an instinct to take a stand and fight on a molehill, or to cut out something that only needs adjustment; use that determination wisely. We can also be eloquent, right the perfect zinging email, or get to the point in our book. Later in the day the mood is more sociable and adaptable, creative, the Moon trines Venus and conjunct Uranus.

Moon conjunct Jupiter 12:36 AM, Moon opposed Mercury 1 AM, Moon opposed Mars one 30 a.m., Mercury conjunct Mars 8:21 AM, Moon trine Venus 3:32 PM, Moon conjuncts Uranus 6:35 PM.

Monday, October 30: Consult and communicate to implement decisions made over the weekend as the Moon enters verbal, nervy Gemini. Catch up on writing, check in with decisions made last week and see how they stand now. Creative decisions, flirtatious connections, the spark of a fight or of a new idea both glow, so watch where the sparks land.

Moon sextile Neptune 12:50 AM, Moon trine Pluto 5:35 AM, Moon enters Gemini 8:07 am.

Tuesday, October 31: This is a great Halloween for wild costumes, Halloween parties, and a good trick-or-treat as Venus trines Uranus under a talkative Gemini Moon. Though our deeper obsessions still run strong, our attention span can be short for the fun stuff; that Venus trine Uranus encourages intriguing aesthetics and sociable connections, conversations in soundbites. Take a break from the heaviness of this world and honor the mysteries.

Wednesday, November 1: Watch out for people with hangovers. We leave the more superficial fun of Halloween and drop back into our hearts and our emotional response to the world. We may need to sit with the memories of those who’ve passed on this All-Soul’s Day and as Mercury quincunx healing Chiron under a Cancer Moon. Be present with people in their feelings, but don’t insist they talk.

Moon square Venus 1:25 AM, Moon square Neptune 6:36 AM, Mercury quincunx Chiron 9:45 AM, Moon enters Cancer 3:30 PM, Moon trine Saturn 4:28 PM.

Thursday, November 2: We can feel self-protective, guarded, but within that also capable, incisive, competent, and strategic. Emotional priorities clarify, don’t try to logically argue with people who’ve taken an emotional stand, instead try to understand what about that decision makes them feel safe.
