Starcodes for the week of December 15-21, 2023

Prioritize safe frivolity. This tail-end of the Sagittarius season calls us to practice generosity and lighten our spirits even as the world darkens towards those longest nights. Next Thursday evening brings the turning point, the Sun enters Capricorn on that long night and three days later the days begin to lengthen again. Happy return of the Sun! All honor to however you choose to celebrate.

Our challenge this year will be to celebrate safely and do so in the face of the world’s agonies. Mercury is now retrograde in serious Capricorn, turning our minds to churn on the world’s conditions and reminding us to finish our work for the year. Mercury retrograde asks us to move with grace and attention to stay safe, no balancing on a tilted chair to hang the highest star. Confirm all meetings and, if any tension arises, check to make sure everyone feels heard and understood.

Our emotions run deep swirling undercurrents this week as Venus in Scorpio opposes Uranus. We can roll with it, rather than attach to the problem and perseverate. Be careful not to let strange deep moods project into daily life and make us irritable or cause glitches in our relationships. Let these emotions stretch our hearts into compassion instead. Keep relationships spacious, with great moments of connection and lots of room in between. Both Venus and Mars form a tricky quincunx to the healing asteroid Chiron which can stir up old feelings but offers a chance to take out a soul-splinter in heal some issue from the past.

Over this weekend an Aquarius Moon helps us honor those seasonal parties and encourages us to feel that collective spirit. It also encourages mass demonstrations, strikes, and other loud political statements under this year’s active Sun. On Sunday the Pisces Moon conjunct Saturn and calls us deep within and underlines our contradictory need for tender privacy. Mercury trines Jupiter on Monday and we can engage some deep discussions on the meaning of the world and brainstorm some expansive plans for the future- just remember that Mercury is retrograde so we’ll need to modify any decisions we make after Jan 3 when Mercury turns direct.

Tuesday through early Thursday an active Aries Moon helps with a flurry of last-minute urgencies. New connections spark as Venus opposes Uranus, holiday parties can start new relationships or inflame an old one. This aspect can also add fuel to the fire of any conflicts, personal or political so just be careful where the sparks land.

Thursday evening the mood shifts from sun and moon in fire signs, to earth signs. The Moon enters comfortable and cozy Taurus and the Sun enters Capricorn as we head into that long night. Capricorn encourages us to come back to our roots to remember what brings us strength and security. In the quiet, let’s ask what feeds our soul and the soul of the world.
